主讲人:丹尼斯·市山(Dennis Y Ichiyama),美国著名视觉设计大师,普渡大学教授。

内容简介:21世纪的今天,科技日新月异,方便我们之处,数不清,道不尽。打开电脑,扑面而来的信息洪流,带来世界各个角落的讯息;出门在外,联系用手机,上网有Wi-Fi,行路有高铁,要跨过五湖四海可以乘飞机。艺术设计也不例外:CAD的普及,激光打印机的运用还有高分辨率扫描成像设备的诞生,这一切都是高新技术的产物。在这个欣欣向荣的“新新”时代,技术是新的,方法是新的。设计中,有了CAD我们要抛弃铅笔圆规吗?设计是否还能够离开电脑?,这些新技术能否完全取代过去的技术?前人的方法何去何从?两者能否兼收并蓄?普渡大学教授,丹尼斯·市山,为你指点迷津,揭晓问题答案。

 

 

教育背景: 

1966年获夏威夷大学马诺分校美术学士学位;

丹尼斯·市山Dennis Y Ichiyama,视觉传达设计家,美国普渡大学教授。设计作品多幅收藏于芬兰拉赫蒂招贴艺术美术馆及瑞士苏黎世Kunstgewerbe美术馆,部分作品在美国,加拿大,捷克斯洛伐克(捷克共和国),法国,德国,意大利,日本,波兰等国出版并展览。他曾五次荣获印第安纳美术委员会(IAC)设计艺术个人奖励金,并于2000年春成为首位威斯康星州汉密尔顿木字与印刷馆特邀艺术家。1990年,丹尼斯教授曾在爱荷华大学书籍中心做访问学者。2005年夏至2006年作为特邀艺术家在芝加哥哥伦比亚学院书籍与纸艺中心及明尼苏达州明尼阿波利斯市明尼苏达书籍艺术中心进行研究。这些经历为其在历史木字,图版印刷,装订艺术与书籍艺术等方面所从事的研究与实践工作打下了坚实的基础。其印刷与设计成果分别获得了纽约字体指导协会与莫霍克展会授予的国家级大奖。此两项大奖均为拥有巨大影响力的国家级与世界级艺术展示平台。其印刷作品分别收藏于哥伦比亚大学古籍善本图书馆,沙克勒具体与视觉诗歌档案馆,旧金山公共图书馆特殊藏品中心,罗彻斯特理工学院凯里图书馆及耶鲁大学斯特林图书馆书籍藏品艺术中心。

教授担任国际美术院长协会(ICFAD)会员,全美艺术管理者理事会(NCAA)会员,印第安纳美术委员会(IAC)专家组成员,拉法叶美术馆理事会会员,及艺术印第安纳国家委员会委员。曾任美国大学艺术协会国家执行委员会委员,并担任委员会副主席。同时为CAA,美国设计师协会(AIGA),英国国际印刷设计师协会(ISTD)成员。CAA委员会包括专业实务委员会,国际委员会,教育委员会以及CAA提名委员会。市教授同时也是1995年建立的CAA职业发展与指导研讨会的积极参与者,现为CAA学生与新兴专业人才委员会委员及CAA发展奖励金评审人。他已两次被授予为普渡大学全球首创精神教师称号,十五次被授予普渡大学人文学院最佳上进教师称号,三次获得普渡大学艺术贡献奖励金。2006年,市教授在罗马获得由美国学会授予的罗马设计奖。2009年春,他第三次获得创造性努力中心奖励金,并继续其在印刷领域的研究。20098月,市教授获得自1995年以来第五次印第安纳艺术协会杰出艺术家称号。

教授在夏威夷马诺分校获得美术学士学位,并于1968年在耶鲁大学艺术与建筑学院获得平面设计美术硕士学位。1976年至1978年,他在瑞士巴塞尔Allgemeine Gewerbeschule学校继续进行研究生学习。市教授一直参与行政管理与领导工作,先后任职于美国圣乔斯大学(1996),卡内基麦隆大学海兹公共政策与管理学院(1996),加利福尼亚州立理工大学(1997)及康奈尔大学(1997),现为普渡大学西拉法叶校区视觉与表演系视觉传达设计部教授。

 

Dennis Y Ichiyama is a designer, professor, and former administrator at Purdue University. His designs are in the collections of the Lahti Museum of Poster Art (Finland) and the Kunstgewerbe museum in Zurich. They have also been published and exhibited in the US, Canada, Czechoslovakia (the Czech Republic), France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Poland. He has been awarded five Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) Individual Artist Fellowships for design arts, and was the first Artist-in-residence at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in Wisconsin in the spring of 2000. In 1990, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. And in summer of 2005 and 2006 he was a resident artist at the Center for Book & Paper Arts (Columbia College Chicago) and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis. These experiences have had a direct impact on his current research and experimental work with historic wood type, letterpress printing, bookbinding, and book arts. His typographic prints and designs have received national awards from the Type Directors Club (NY), and The Mohawk Show. Both awards include an extensive national and international exhibition venue. His typographic works are in the collections of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Columbia University, the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry, the San Francisco Public Library Special Collections Center, the Cary Library of the Rochester Institute of Technology, and the Arts of the Book Collection at Yale University Sterling Library.

Ichiyama has served on several boards and been a member of ICFAD (International Council of Fine Arts Deans), NCAA (National Council of Arts Administrators) board, IAC Advisory Panel, the Lafayette Art Museum Board, and state council member of “Arts Indiana”. He served on the national and executive boards of the College Art Association and has served as Vice-President of Committees. Memberships include CAA, AIGA, ISTD (International Society of Type Designers, UK). CAA Committees include the Professional Practices, International Committee, the Education Committee, and the CAA Nominations Committee. He has also been an active participant in the CAA Career Development and Mentoring Workshops since its inception in l995 and currently a member of the CAA Student and Emerging Professionals Committee and reviewer for the CAA  Professional Development Fellowship awards. He has received two Global Initiative Faculty Grants from Purdue, fifteen Faculty Incentive Grants from the College of Liberal Arts, and three Center for Artistic Endeavors Fellowships from Purdue University. In 2006 he received the Rome Prize in Design from the American Academy in Rome. In the spring of 2009 he was completed his third fellowship from the Center Creative Endeavors to continue research in typography. In August 2009, he received an Individual Artists Grant from the Indiana Arts Council (the fifth award since 1995).

Professor Ichiyama received the BFA degree from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, and the MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University, School of Art & Architecture in l968. He continued post-graduate studies in design at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule, Basel from l976-l978. He has participated in administrative management and leadership programs at Cornell (1997), California State Polytechnic University (1997), Carnegie-Mellon University Heinz School of Public Policy and Management (1996), and San Jose University (1996). He is currently professor in the Visual Communications Design Program in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue University, West Lafayette campus.
